Hidden Treasure in the WWU Library

January 6th, 2010

The library at WWU has a strange assortment of computer science books. Most are fairly dated, lots are uninteresting, but a few are good. For example, the last book I checked out was SICP (which I still need to finish), but I wouldn't expect to find anything on recent web technology such as Django or jQuery. I don't really expect my university's library to keep up with the latest trends in web development.

It's ok though, its great for exploring history. I was pleased to find an original copy from 1965 of the LISP 1.5 Programmer's manual two days ago. At first I wondered naively if I could find some copy of the LISP 1.5 source, and follow along with the manual. Then I got to section 6.1: Preparing a Card Deck. Wow. Someone please tell me to get off their lawn! I am young and ignorant.

LISP 1.5 Programmer's Manual

Only been checked out 3 times between '87 and '97. My classmates don't know what they are missing. This is a real trip backwards in time.

Here is a pdf copy of the manual.
